As they qualified together with a BA Hons in Youth and Community Work, Moy and Melissa (Motive8 Directors) set out to fulfil their joint career focus to support disadvantaged and disenfranchised young people by setting up Memo Training Consultancy. For 9 years, this successful enterprise fulfilled education and training contracts with an extensive range of local statutory and voluntary agencies, working with disadvantaged groups of people to empower them to take action and make valuable changes to their lives, promoting the role of community engagement and enhancing personal skills to leave the people with sustainable employment skills. Having gained PCET (Post-Compulsory Certificate in Education and Training), when the opportunity arose to take over South Bradford Vocational Centre. Moy and Melissa seized the opportunity and created Motive8 as a charity limited by guarantee, thus preventing Bradford’s educationally vulnerable young people losing a vital vocational training facility.
With a ‘can-do’ attitude, Moy and Melissa’s work is underpinned by skill, dedication, energy, focus, and diligence to address the specific needs of learners that are at risk, or who have fallen through the net and a willingness to fully engage with the more advanced requirements of running a successful community education enterprise.
